STEVEN BONNER: PICTURES AND LETTERS

Steven Bonner is an incredible resource.  His talents never cease to amaze us, ranging from typography to illustration and graphic design. He can even create a custom font. Below we’ve posted examples of his work from advertising, book publishing, and editorial.

We are showcasing a recent project Steven did with  the Digital Agency of the Year, Work Club. He developed illustrations for an animation and a typeface for ‘Ballantines 12 Year Old’, a premium blended Scotch whiskey. He illustrated the seven main tasting notes as illuminated letters, each letter telling the story of its own flavor, and the illustrations were then animated as part of an introductory story. He also designed a custom typeface which the viewer could use to create their own personalized Facebook cover image. The typeface has the option of being simple or ornate, where you can mix and match letters to create a personal logotype.

Steven is a popular book cover illustrator. He is able to design just the right treatment for book titles! He can also complete an accompanying illustration as he did with The Little Shadows.

Editorial illustration and title lettering are a big part of Steven's work. He has worked with various publications over the years, including GQ, Esquire, Wired, The New York Times, and Boston magazine amongst others. A recent feature in Germany’s Hohe Luft Magazine let Steven develop an illustration that referenced the article's theme of egos and self-importance. ‘Ich’ means ‘Me’ in German, so he thought it might be quite fitting to draw the word as a big neon sign, symbolizing someone's desire to be in the spotlight. This illustration may come off simple, but Steven had a lot of fun!

WELCOME KIRSTEN ULVE TO MENDOLA!

Amy Winehouse
Runners World
We've been big fans of Kirsten's work for many years and it is great to have her on our team.  She has such a deep portfolio, with so many variations, that we created two portfolios:  one for more commercial work and the other editorial.  All of her art has some kind of fashion influence-- even her character designs: check out the recently redesigned Littlest Pet Shop characters she did for Hasbro.  We've also posted examples of terrific work for Target and Kleenex.  On the editorial side, she has illustrated countless celebrities for Entertainment Weekly and The New Yorker.  She also has regular gigs for Glamour Germany and Reader's Digest, and her work continues to evolve.  We've posted her latest piece for Glamour Germany below.
